About the Role Duke Student Affairs Marketing & Communications is looking for a creative, curious undergraduate student who wants to make work that gets people’s attention. Our team tells the story of the student experience at Duke through photography, video, design, social media, digital content, and other creative projects. As a MarComms Intern, you’ll help us brainstorm ideas, capture moments, create content, and turn good ideas into work that students actually want to engage with. You’ll work alongside the Student Affairs MarComms team and partners across the division on real projects that reach the Duke community. Some assignments will come with a clear direction. Others may start with nothing more than an idea, a problem, or a question that we’ll figure out together. We want someone who is excited to experiment, take feedback, develop their skills, and contribute their own perspective to the work. What You’ll Do · Help create engaging content for Student Affairs websites, social media, campaigns, events, and other communications. · Contribute to photography, videography, graphic design, writing, social media, and other creative projects based on your skills and interests. · Brainstorm concepts and creative approaches with the MarComms team. · Photograph and/or film Student Affairs programs, spaces, events, and student experiences. · Edit photos, videos, graphics, and other creative assets. · Pay close attention to the small details that can take a project from good to great. · Collaborate with Student Affairs staff, students, and campus partners. · Receive feedback, ask questions, and revise work as part of the creative process. · Manage assignments and deadlines using Asana and other team tools · Maintain regular communication with the MarComms team about project progress. · Occasionally support evening or weekend events. · Commit to a consistent work schedule of at least six hours per week. What We’re Looking For You do not need to be an expert photographer, designer, filmmaker, or marketer to apply. We’re especially interested in students who demonstrate: · A creative eye. You notice interesting visuals, stories, moments, and ideas. · Attention to detail. You care about how the final product looks, sounds, reads, and feels. · Curiosity. You want to understand why something works, not just how to make it. · A willingness to learn. You are comfortable trying something new, asking questions, and improving through feedback. · Reliability. You communicate, meet deadlines, and follow through on commitments. · Collaboration. You enjoy making things with other people and are open to perspectives beyond your own. · Creative ambition. You want to make things that are thoughtful, interesting, unexpected, and, yes, maybe even a little dope. Experience with photography, videography, graphic design, writing, social media, or other forms of creative work is helpful, but not required. Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, or similar creative software is also a plus. Student Affairs can provide access to equipment and opportunities to develop your technical skills. What You’ll Learn This role is intended to be a place to grow. Interns will have opportunities to develop skills in: · Creative concepting and storytelling · Photography and videography · Design and visual communication · Social media and digital content · Working with clients and creative briefs · Receiving and applying creative feedback · Project and deadline management · Duke and Student Affairs brand standards · Accessibility and inclusive communications · Building a stronger creative portfolio Most importantly, we want you to leave this role having made work you are genuinely proud to show people. |
