Research Assistant The Research Assistant will support a variety of applied research and program evaluation activities across multiple projects. Working closely with the research team, this position will contribute to participant recruitment, data collection, data management and analysis, and dissemination of findings. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and interested in developing skills in research methods. This position offers hands-on experience in all phases of the research process, from study design and data collection through analysis, reporting, and dissemination of findings, with an emphasis on qualitative research. Although the role would likely include engagement in qualitative applied research, the ideal candidate would be willing to support both quantitative or qualitative research projects. Primary Responsibilities Data Collection - Assist with the development, revision, and formatting of data collection instruments, recruitment materials, consent forms, and IRB submissions.
- Support participant recruitment efforts and communicate professionally with study participants.
- Coordinate and schedule interviews and other data collection activities.
- Facilitate and monitor virtual interviews using Zoom and other online platforms.
Data Management - Review interview transcripts for completeness and accuracy.
- Organize and maintain datasets including surveys, transcripts, interview notes, and project materials in secure file management systems (e.g., Duke Box).
- Ensure compliance with IRB requirements, data security standards, and participant confidentiality protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of research activities and study documentation.
Data Analysis - Assist in the development and refinement of quantitative/qualitative codebooks.
- Apply established coding frameworks to qualitative data using qualitative analysis software and other data management tools.
- Contribute to rapid qualitative analysis and summary reports.
- Manage and organize qualitative data within software platforms such as NVivo and Excel-based analytic tools.
Reporting and Dissemination - Assist with drafting research summaries, reports, presentations, and other dissemination products.
- Participate in team discussions regarding emerging findings and interpretation of qualitative data.
- Support the preparation of materials for project partners, stakeholders, and community audiences.
- Contribute to the communication of research findings in clear and accessible formats.
Project Coordination and Administrative Support - Maintain organized project files, documentation, and research records.
- Conduct literature reviews and background research to support ongoing projects.
- Assist with tracking project deliverables, timelines, and milestones.
- Support coordination and communication among research team members and project partners.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience or willingness to learn qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo).
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and work independently while collaborating effectively with a research team.
