Duke University Libraries’ Lilly Library seeks a graduate student to oversee evening library operations. The position reports to the Lilly Library Access & Delivery Services Manager. In this role you will ensure that students, faculty, and other researchers receive the services they need and that operations are running smoothly during evening hours at a busy academic library. Work hours are (6:00pm to midnight), Sunday through Thursday during the academic year. During fall, winter, and spring breaks, you may shift your schedule to work between 9:00am and 5:00pm or you may enjoy leave when classes are not in session. · Monitor facility access, enforce patron codes of conduct, perform routine safety walk-throughs, and contact campus police for emergencies · Manage loans/returns transactions; troubleshoot basic printer, scanner, and workstation issues; and answer directional or basic research queries · Assist in other access services-related duties, including course reserves and interlibrary loan · Guide undergraduate student assistants while working at the desk · Log incident reports and effectively communicate operational problems or maintenance needs to full-time staff via email or other communication channels · Monitor library communication channels, including phone, email, online chat, etc. · Oversee the closure of Lilly Library each evening, work with the undergraduate student assistants to ensure that the building is cleared of users and other closing procedures are followed and completed |
