Job Details

As a DCF Farm Crew Member, you will:

• Drive students to and from Duke Campus Farm for weekly Community Workdays.

• Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable ambassador for Duke Campus Farm and its programs.

• Work alongside farm staff, volunteers, and fellow student crew members to complete Community Workday tasks, including planting, harvesting, weeding, mulching, and other seasonal farm activities.

• Develop practical skills in small-scale sustainable agriculture and food production.

• Help orient and engage Community Workday participants.

• Build confidence in explaining and eventually teaching the "how" and "why" behind farm practices and food system work.

Schedule

• Must be available every Friday from 12:15 PM–4:45 PM.

• Employment begins in the fall semester and continues through the academic year.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must:

• Be enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate, or professional student at Duke University throughout the term of employment and over 18 years of age at the start of employment 

• Possess a valid driver's license a clean driving record, at least two years of driving experience

• Complete Duke's Defensive Driving Course and Vehicle Safety Course (online). The Duke Campus Farm will sponsor the successful candidate in completing these trainings at the start of employment. 

• Be able to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

• Enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

• Has experience working outdoors, particularly in agriculture, horticulture, environmental education, or food systems.

• Brings diverse life experiences, perspectives, and identities that will strengthen our team.
