Job Description

The Duke Rheumatology Department is seeking a detail-oriented WordPress Website Assistant to help with updates and optimization for our existing website. The educational website is aimed at improving outcomes in pregnancy for women with Lupus: www.lupuspregnancy.org

This is a short term project with the possibility of continued hours throughout the school year. The amount of hours per week may vary based on the number of tasks to perform. Pay rate dependent on experience.

Responsibilities:

Content Management & SEO Optimization: Update and optimize website content as directed
Core & Plugin Care: Safely execute updates for WordPress core, activated themes, and third-party plugins while preventing site breaking or layout shifts
Responsiveness & Troubleshooting: Test and refine layout variations across mobile, tablet, and desktop viewports. Identify and resolve broken links, formatting issues, and minor technical bugs
Additional website-related duties as needed

Job Requirements

Requirements:

WordPress Proficiency: Experience with and understanding of the WordPress dashboard, media library, block editor, and basic SEO plugins (e.g., Yoast SEO) as well as page builders such as Elementor, Gutenberg, or similar tools.
Basic HTML/CSS: Ability to perform minor custom styling tweaks and fix alignment issues. Possible implementation of custom layout designs or override of theme defaults.
Organization & Communication: Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately. Able to clearly and proactively communicate with project manager and other stakeholders.
Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and work independently.

Much of the work can be completed remotely at student’s convenience as long as deadlines are met. Student must be able to attend periodic remote meetings with supervisor and collaborators during typical business hours.
