This Teaching Assistant (TA) will provide administrative and limited grading support to instructors in the Sanford School’s Master of Public Affairs (MPA) program during the Fall 2026 term. The TA will work primarily with the instructor for PUBPOL839 (Professor Pat Harned) but will also be available to support other MPA Fall term faculty on a limited, on-demand basis. 
MPA courses meet online on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, so this is an ideal opportunity for students interested in part-time work that does not conflict with typical class schedules. The TA is expected to work between 5-10 hours per week, depending on the volume of requests received from MPA faculty. Job responsibilities include: 
1. Helping facilitate online (Zoom) meetings for PUBPOL839 (Tuesdays 6:00-7:15 p.m. Eastern) and other MPA courses/instructors on a limited, on-demand basis. 
2. Helping administer and maintain course Canvas sites for MPA courses (uploading resources, administering assignments, facilitating discussion forums, posting announcements, etc.). 
3. Assisting the PUBPOL839 instructor (and other instructors on a limited, on-demand basis) with course development tasks such as researching and compiling course materials, planning and facilitating course discussions and activities, and producing content for online learning modules. 
4. If possible, attending the MPA’s in-person “residency” on Duke's campus from August 19-23, 2026 and providing administrative support to MPA faculty, staff, and students during the residency. (Note that your hours during the residency are likely to be longer than usual.) 
Job qualifications: ? Competency facilitating online Zoom meetings and managing Zoom settings. ? Previous experience with Canvas as a student, TA, or course administrator. ? Strong communication and organizational skills. ? Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and responsiveness. ? Successful completion of ethics and/or public budgeting courses in other programs is preferred but not required.
