Location: BRiDGE Incubator at the Chesterfield Building – 701 West Main St., Durham, NC
Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per week max

About BRiDGE

The BRiDGE Incubator supports the development and launch of Duke-affiliated biotechnology, biomedical engineering, and medical device startups. Located in the Chesterfield Building in downtown Durham, BRiDGE provides shared wet lab space, scientific equipment, and operational support to early-stage companies working to advance translational technologies toward commercialization.

Job Description

The BRiDGE Laboratory Operations Assistant will support the day-to-day operation of a shared laboratory incubator environment. This role is ideal for someone with strong wet lab experience who is comfortable working independently, troubleshooting technical issues, and helping maintain a safe and functional laboratory space.

Responsibilities include:

Performing routine laboratory safety checks, including eyewash station inspections and general walkthroughs
Monitoring shared laboratory equipment and troubleshooting operational issues
Coordinating equipment maintenance, repairs, and vendor service visits
Maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, consumables, and replacement parts
Assisting with annual laboratory safety reviews and compliance activities
Monitoring refrigerators, freezers, incubators, and other shared infrastructure
Supporting chemical waste handling and laboratory organization
Helping onboard and support BRiDGE member companies
Assisting with tours for prospective incubator tenants
Answering routine technical questions regarding shared equipment and laboratory operations

The position requires regular on-site presence and occasional responsiveness to operational or equipment issues.

Job Requirements

· Minimum of 2 years of hands-on wet lab experience, ideally in biomedical engineering, biotechnology, molecular biology, or a related field

· Experience working with common laboratory instrumentation and shared lab equipment

· Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

· Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and compliance procedures

· Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities

· Strong organizational and communication skills

· Comfortable working in a collaborative, multi-user laboratory environment

· Experience supporting laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, or research facilities is strongly preferred
