Job Description |
Position Overview: The Prison Engagement Initiative is seeking three Justice Lab Fellows to support and expand its “Justice Lab.” Fellows will play a key role in coordinating volunteer efforts between Duke students and local prisons and re-entry facilities. This position focuses on organizing, developing, and sustaining engagement opportunities that connect students with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated populations. Key Responsibilities: - Coordinate and manage student volunteer efforts with local prisons and re-entry organizations
- Develop and launch new programming and engagement opportunities
- Maintain volunteer schedules and ensure adequate coverage
- Track and ensure completion of required trainings
- Learn and uphold institutional and facility policies and procedures
- Organize transportation logistics for volunteer activities
- Troubleshoot issues related to programming and volunteer coordination
- Identify and propose new partnership and engagement opportunities
- Collaborate with fellow Justice Lab team members
- Contribute to a comprehensive end-of-year report outlining recommendations for how Duke and other North Carolina universities can effectively engage with incarcerated populations

Job Requirements |
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: - Currently enrolled as a student at Duke University
- Ability to commit to the full academic year
- Availability to work approximately 2.5 hours per week
- Ability to attend biweekly team meetings
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications: - Interest in criminal justice, prison education, re-entry, or community engagement
- Experience with volunteer coordination, tutoring, or program support
- Experience managing schedules, logistics, or group activities
- Ability to problem-solve and adapt in dynamic environments
- Interest in research, policy, or report writing
