Job Description |
We are looking for students who are passionate about exploring how AI can shape education, research, and student life at Duke. The Student AI Research and Application Consultant role is an opportunity to engage with AI from an interdisciplinary perspective—we are not just looking for tech or STEM students. We want a diverse team of AI enthusiasts from all fields of study who are curious about how this technology can impact learning, creativity, and innovation across disciplines. If you are excited about AI’s potential and want to help shape its role at Duke, this position is for you!This is an AI-positive-but-curious, exploratory role, focused on opportunities, creative applications, and best practices, rather than just risks or limitations. Job Duties Include: Exploring & Documenting AI Use Cases Research and test generative AI tools to evaluate their effectiveness for learning, productivity, and creativity. Develop best practices, prompts, experiments, and examples for Duke-wide use. Identify gaps in AI training, policy, and infrastructure that impact students.
Creating & Publishing AI Resources Write blog posts, guides, lessons, and other short-form content to help students and faculty use AI more effectively. Develop campus-specific AI toolkits and templates for studying, research, and teaching.
Engaging in Campus-Wide AI Conversations Serve as a student voice in AI-related committees and working groups. Organize and participate in forums, discussions, and workshops about AI’s role at Duke. Conduct student surveys and feedback sessions to gather insights on AI’s impact.
Advising Faculty & Administrators on AI Strategy Act as a bridge between students and faculty/staff AI initiatives. Provide actionable feedback to help shape Duke’s AI policies and tools. Collaborate with faculty exploring AI in teaching, research, and innovation

Job Requirements |
An Ideal Candidate for This Position Has:AI & Research Interest:- Passion for AI’s potential in education, creativity, and research.
- Curiosity to explore new AI tools and experiment with their applications.
- Strong critical thinking skills—able to evaluate AI tools beyond the hype.
Communication & Content Creation Skills:- Strong writing skills, with the ability to distill complex AI concepts into accessible content.
- Experience writing blog posts, guides, or research summaries is a plus.
- Public speaking or workshop facilitation experience is a bonus.
Analytical & Strategic Thinking:- Ability to identify AI-related gaps in student training, policy, or support.
- Interest in AI ethics, governance, and responsible AI use.
- Problem-solving mindset—looking for opportunities, not just risks.
Organizational & Outreach Skills:- Ability to manage projects independently and juggle multiple priorities.
- Interest in collaborating with faculty, administrators, and student groups.
- Some experience with social media or outreach campaigns is a plus
