Volunteer Research Assistant – Duke Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences Up to 3 positions | Summer 2026 start Are you a Duke student interested in applying to graduate programs in psychology, clinical psychology, or a related field? This is a hands-on research opportunity in an NIH-funded lab where you'll work directly with an experienced postdoctoral researcher and study coordinators. We are seeking students who are motivated and genuinely interest in learning the craft of clinical research. Our lab investigates emotion dysregulation and brain stimulation (TMS) as a treatment approach. As a volunteer RA, you'll gain real experience in the kinds of skills that strengthen graduate school applications and prepare you for doctoral-level research. Our primary needs are as follows: - Physiological data cleaning — learning to work with psychophysiological software (heart rate, skin conductance) used in cutting-edge affective neuroscience research
- Research database management — data entry, error checking, and quality control
- Manuscript support — literature reviews, reference management, and proofreading*
- *physiological data management is primary focus, with opportunity to earn time towards helping prepare manuscripts
Additionally, you will work closely with Dr. Neacisu's postdoc, Skye Napolitano, as part of a small cohort. You'll meet with both Dr. Napolitano and the lab weekly, with potential opportunities to work with Dr. Neacsiu as well, pending availability. These mentors can speak to what graduate training in clinical or research psychology actually looks like and can support your applications when the time comes. To apply, email Skye Napolitano (postdoctoral researcher) at skye.napolitano@duke.edu with: - Why you're interested in this position
- Your year at Duke as of Summer 2026
- Your CV or resume
- Three writing samples (e.g., a psychology or research methods paper)
