The Bernhardt Lab in the Department of Biology is accepting applications for a field technician position for summer 2026. This is a paid position intended to provide undergraduates with experience conducting independent scientific research through a variety of field and laboratory methods. This summer, the technician will have the opportunity to partner with ecological researchers at the Hubbard Brook Long Term Ecological Research program, a program that has been monitoring the forests and streams of the Hubbard Brook watershed for over 60 years. Based in the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest (New Hampshire, USA), our research group is currently investigating how aquatic mosses in streams support ecosystem function (organic matter storage, nutrient cycling) and freshwater biodiversity. The technician will work as part of a four-person team for three months at sites throughout the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The technician will be expected to reside in on-site housing maintained by the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest research program in North Woodstock, NH. They will have the opportunity to participate in summer events organized by the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation, including bonfire and trivia nights, and attend the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study Annual Cooperators’ meeting in July. The technician will be supervised both on site and remotely by a team comprised of Heili Lowman and Emily Bernhardt (Duke University) as well as Tammy Wooster and Christopher Solomon (Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies).
