We are seeking a dynamic and creative communications and marketing assitant to support the biomedical engineering department at Duke University.
Will assist in various internal and external communications and marketing projects for Duke University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, primarily including social media and content production. The intern will be able to work with experienced professionals and gain hands-on experience in science communications and outreach.
Key responsibilities: · Collect and create content for the department's social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and create evergreen content. · Monitor social media channels to share BME-tagged or BME-affiliated content. · Help put together a quarterly awards and announcement round-up for smaller awards. · Practice feature writing by choosing 1-2 larger stories per internship period. These could include faculty or student profiles, long-term project coverage, or features about exciting biomedical research, depending on the participant’s interests. · Work effectively independently and as part of a team to ensure good working relationships with staff across the department, the Communications & Marketing team and relevant stakeholders. · Help facilitate communications between BME staff and faculty and the Communications and Marketing Team as needed.
Qualifications: · Interns must be enrolled in a communications, design, journalism, marketing, IT, computer science, or engineering. · Strong writing and communication skills. · Strong visual design or technical skills. Strong project management skills preferred. · Knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Instagram. · Experience with content creation for various media types (written, graphics, etc.). · Ability to work independently and within a team environment. The role is ideal for students passionate about communications, graphic design, journalism, or marketing and looking to gain professional experience.
