Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume/CV to Danielle.Busby@duke.edu Project Overview: This research project aims to investigate the socio-structural factors that contribute to suicide risk among Black sexual and gender minority (SGM) adolescents and young adults (AYA). Given the increasing suicide disparities faced by this group, the study seeks to identify socio-structural predictors (such as state and local laws, policies, and social climate indicators of racism, anti-SGM stigma, and mental health stigma) that influence suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs). Through a longitudinal design, we will follow a large cohort of Black SGM AYA to uncover modifiable factors that could inform future public health policy and community-level interventions aimed at reducing suicide inequities. In alignment with the 2019 Congressional Black Caucus Taskforce “Ring the Alarm” report, our goal is to identify transformative policy interventions that could address population-level suicide disparities and improve mental health outcomes for this vulnerable group. Position Summary: The Research Associate (RA) will play a critical role in supporting the multi-institutional project team, contributing to data management, literature reviews, and dissemination activities. Specifically, RA will program and manage Qualtrics surveys, export Qualtrics data into SPSS, clean data, compute composite mediator and outcome variables, code the LGBTQ Supportive Environments Inventory (LGBTQ SEI) mediator variable, and merge W-WI policy datasets with the SPSS survey data.
