Housed within the Sanford School of Public Policy, the Hart Leadership Program prepares and inspires undergraduate students to practice the art of ethical leadership in public life. In addition to academic classes, program offerings include internships, fellowships, and co-curricular leadership projects at Duke, in Durham, and in communities across North Carolina and around the world. The mission of the Hart Leadership Program (HLP) is to teach Duke undergraduates how to practice ethical leadership by fostering community-based action, research with a civic mission, and collaborative practices that build genuinely public goods. Job Description: The HLP Program Assistant will report to Senior Program Coordinator Lee Edelblut and work with HLP faculty + staff to provide support for our existing undergraduate programs (SOL, Patman, LAPI, and the Hart Fellowship). The Program Assistant will generally work 6-10 hours per week. We offer a flexible schedule to accommodate coursework. We look for students with a strong desire to succeed, a willingness to juggle a variety of projects, and the ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and think creatively. We also seek students whose values and vision align with the Hart Leadership Program and who are interested in learning about program development and implementation. The HLP Program Assistant will have the unique opportunity to exercise agency and take ownership of projects through the process of supporting our programs this year. This role will ideally provide the student worker with valuable leadership experience that will serve them beyond the scope of employment. Specific Responsibilities: - Program Promotion/Recruitment: this position entails coordinating and attending a fall info session for prospective fellows, tabling at campus fairs to promote our programs, consulting with potential applications, posting flyers across campus, and other recruitment tasks as needed. This position may also participate in the reading and selection of future fellows.
- Administrative Tasks: Responsible for collecting student forms and documents, following up with those who have missed deadlines, helping with other administrative needs that arise.
- Database Management: Student will be responsible for taking on a long-range project updating contact and employment information for all HLP alumni, as well as transferring student projects from our website to an alumni network database.
