What do student development representatives do?
oReps arrive at the calling room in Smith Warehouse and stay for a 2-hour shift.
oSupervisors and reps have a lot of fun playing games in teams—the winners get points for a higher end-of-semester bonus!
o There is no dress code. Feel free to dress as comfortably as you would like (as long as it’s appropriate). In what other job can you go to work in your pajamas?
o You are required to work two shifts a week but feel free to come in for extra hours and make extra money.

What earnings can I expect?
o Students start at a base pay of $17.00 per hour, and there are many, many ways to earn extra money within the Phonathon system.
o After every semester with the program, returning callers receive a pay raise, so the longer you stay with us, the more money you make!

What’s a phone call like?
o We follow a three-ask model for fundraising:

1.Make sure the prospect’s email and address are up to date
2.Have a conversation with alumni, parents, and friends of Duke about things that interest the two of you. This is the most fun part of the call! Talk to them about majors, jobs, advice, or anything that tickles your fancy. Many prospects have amazing, exciting things to say about what it was like being a Blue Devil back when they were here.
3.Share with them why the Annual Fund is so important to student life and academics.
4.Make THREE specific dollar amount asks—this is the most important part! Plenty of prospects will give on the third ask!
5.Help them through the receipt procedure.
6.Confirm their employer information.
7.Bid your new friend goodbye.
8.Give yourself a high five for helping your University be able to give you and your classmates such an amazing education!

o Callers can earn money for their bonuses by winning nightly stats races, getting on weekly stats boards, being voted for a superlative, or through points given out by Supervisors for a job well done.
