We’re looking for 8-10 people passionate about food and farm systems to join our 2024-2024 Academic Year Farm Crew. This is a great opportunity to learn about organic agriculture and food systems sustainability on the ground and with your hands. These are paid positions, 6-10 hours/week open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at Duke, that run from the beginning of September through the end of April. SCOPE : As a DCF Farm Crew member, you will: Work with the farm’s full-time staff and fellow student crew members to accomplish daily tasks with increasing independence, including planting, weeding, washing, harvesting, and delivering sustainably-grown produce to our community partners. Learn (and eventually teach!) some of the whys and hows of small-scale agriculture. Become an ambassador for the work that we do on campus and during our open Community Work Days (Friday afternoons) SCHEDULE: Crew members will work 6-10 hours/week starting as early as August 25th and no later than September 9th and work through the end of the spring semester. This is a two-semester commitment. Farm crew members must work a consistent weekly schedule within an M-F 8 am-4pm time frame, except Wednesday. Work a minimum of 2 shifts per week. Farm crew members must work 4-6 weekend irrigation shifts (averaging about 1 hour). Student crew members must have reliable transportation to and from work shifts daily. Crew members are encouraged to carpool to the farm. Duke no longer provides free transit between the farm and campus via Lyft. |
