Job Description |
As a Student Assistant, you will assist the Communications Assistant in content creation, social media management, and event support at the John Hope Franklin Center and affiliated Office of Global Affairs. You will help develop and implement strategies to enhance the visibility of events, initiatives, and programs, engaging both local and global communities. Responsibilities include drafting and scheduling social media posts, assisting with graphic design, supporting on-site event logistics, and helping maintain consistent and impactful messaging across digital platforms. This role is ideal for someone interested in communications within an academic, cultural, and globally connected environment. ResponsibilitiesContent Creation: Assist in drafting and editing social media posts, newsletters, and blog entries highlighting events, initiatives, and community partnerships. Event Support: Provide on-site assistance for events, including setup, live social media coverage, photography, and videography. (Wednesdays at the Center, option for other events) Graphic Design: Create visually engaging graphics for digital and print materials, following branding guidelines and assisting with layout design using Adobe, Canva etc. Social Media Management: Help monitor social media accounts by responding to comments, tracking engagement and brainstorming content ideas. Research and Outreach: Gather information on related cultural, academic, and community events or initiatives to inform content and collaboration opportunities. Newsletter Production: Support the creation of newsletters by compiling relevant content, proofreading, and assisting with layout. Photo and Video Editing: Edit images and videos for use in social media posts, event recaps, and promotional materials. Administrative Support: Perform general office tasks as needed, including answering emails, organizing files, and managing communications records. Audience Engagement: Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop strategies to increase community engagement and broaden audience reach. Student Engagement: Increase student engagement with the JHFC and centers, including providing insight on needs and wants of students in this space

RequirementsEnrolled at Duke University and in-person for the Spring 2025 semester Available to work in-person at the John Hope Franklin Center on Wednesdays from 11:30am-1:30pm Some experience working with social media management and content creation Experience working with Adobe software is a plus
