We are dedicated to fostering a culture of consent, respect, accountability, and support to individuals and the community as a whole. GVEO seeks to empower students through education, awareness, and proactive measures. GVEO offers primary prevention programming, consultation, referrals, networking, risk reduction education, and health promotion. GVEO focuses on an approach that actively engages students, encourages participation, and fosters a dynamic exchange of information. |
Job Requirements |
Position Overview: The Office of Gender Violence Education and Outreach at Duke University seeks a dedicated Graduate Assistant to support its primary prevention initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity for a graduate student passionate about promoting awareness, education, and advocacy in the prevention of gender-based violence within the university community. Key Responsibilities: - Program Support: Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of primary prevention programs and initiatives related to gender-based violence education.
- Educational Outreach: Collaborate with staff to design and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and educational events aimed at promoting healthy relationships, consent culture, and bystander intervention strategies.
- Resource Development: Contribute to the creation and dissemination of educational materials, resources, and campaigns that raise awareness about gender violence prevention.
- Research and Evaluation: Conduct literature reviews, gather data, and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of prevention programs and initiatives.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative assistance as needed, including scheduling meetings, maintaining records, and responding to inquiries from students, faculty, and community partners.
- Collaboration and Networking: Build and maintain relationships with campus partners, student organizations, and community agencies to enhance collaboration and support for prevention efforts.
- Training and Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities related to gender violence prevention, trauma-informed practices, and related areas.
Requirements: - Enrollment in a graduate program at Duke University in good academic standing, preferably in fields such as social work, psychology, public health, sociology, women’s studies, or related disciplines.
- Strong commitment to social justice, gender equity, and preventing gender-based violence.
- Must be a role model for responsible and healthy relationships.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.
- Previous experience with program planning, facilitation, or educational outreach is desirable.
- Familiarity with issues related to sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and related trauma is advantageous.
- Must be available for weekly staff meetings.
