Teaching assistant will aid Professor Lisa Keister in updating materials for her course Getting Rich. This course is a semester-long immersion in thinking about income and wealth. It has two parts. In part 1, students learn academic literature about the one percent, the income and wealth distributions, how people accumulate financial resources, and whether it is possible to change positions in the income and wealth distributions over time. In part 2, they think practically. They learn the basics of personal finance including cash management, saving, buying real estate, investing and taking advantage of work benefits, credit, and fraud. In the process, we will explore how financial markets function, including markets for housing, stocks, bonds, credit, and related financial instruments. The successful applicant will assist in updating materials for both portions of the course. |
