We’re looking for 4 people passionate about food and farm systems to join our 2024 Summer Field Crew. This is a great opportunity to learn about organic agriculture and food systems sustainability on the ground and with your hands. These are paid positions, 20-25 hours/week, open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at Duke, that run from May to mid-August. SCOPE : As a DCF Farm Crew member, you will: Work with the farm’s full-time staff and fellow student crew members to accomplish daily tasks with increasing independence; including planting, weeding, washing, harvesting, and delivering sustainably-grown produce to our community partners. Learn (and eventually teach!) some of the whys as well as the hows of small-scale agriculture. SCHEDULE: Crew members will work 20-25 hours/week starting as early as May 6th and no later than May 15th Farm crew members MUST work a consistent weekly schedule within a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7am-12pm time frame. Work shifts must be 5 hours minimum per shift. Occasional weekend shifts for irrigation duty. Student crew members must have reliable means of transportation, to and from their work shift each day. Crew members are encouraged to carpool to the farm. COMPENSATION: Positions start at $16/hour and also include a portion of the farm’s organic produce. This position can also be counted toward Duke’s Certificate in Sustainability Engagement. We will start reviewing applications on a rolling basis starting on April 8th. Interviews for selected candidates will be held the week of April 15-26th.
