Dr. Anne Mitchell Whisnant, faculty in the Social Science Research Institute and Director of the Graduate Liberal Studies Program, seeks a graduate student research assistant (RA) to join the research project she is co-directing on “Exploring Black History on the Blue Ridge Parkway.” The position will start as soon as filled and can continue through the 2024 calendar year (including summer 2024). The RA will assist the project leaders (Dr. Whisnant and Dr. Cheryl Dong at Bowling Green State University) with locating, organizing, and analyzing primary and secondary materials related to the project, which may include archival documents, maps, letters, reports, and data from sources such as the Census; as well as books, articles, web resources, and government-sponsored research studies. They may be asked to liaise with colleagues at archival repositories, on other research projects, and at the National Park Service. The RA will assure that all research materials are properly entered into the team’s Zotero research database, with appropriate notes and tagging. They will also conduct library literature searches to assure that the project identifies relevant studies that could inform the project. RA may also assist in developing the journal articles and ArcGIS StoryMap that are two of the proposed outcomes for the project, and will be offered co-authorship credit as appropriate. RA must be available to work 10-15 hours per week. 100% remote work is possible. |
