Hiring for Fall 2024: Interviews will take place at the beginning of the 2024 Fall Semester An Outdoor Adventures Trip leader is required to fill the role of trip leader and climbing wall monitor for Outdoor Adventures. Responsibilities: Climbing Wall Responsible for the overall daily operations of Outdoor Adventures. Maintain a safe and welcoming indoor climbing environment. Provide positive & engaging customer experiences. Work directly with Supervisors to accomplish daily tasks. Responsible for managing climbing facility documents and records. Belay and instruct participants in the climbing wall. Enforce all climbing facility policies. Administer risk management policies and procedures as needed. Inspect climbing equipment for quality and safety standards. Monitor program equipment inventory (trip equipment, rental equipment, and climbing wall equipment). Maintain a clean facility. Outfitting customers with outdoor equipment and assisting them with planning personal outdoor trips. Inventory, clean, repair, and maintenance all rental and trip equipment. Process trip and clinic registrations and equipment rentals. Attend all mandatory staff trainings and meetings. Trip Leader Trip Leaders are responsible for leading the variety of Outdoor Adventure Trips, this includes but is not limited to hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding, surfing, skiing/snowboarding, and whitewater kayaking. Adhere to and understand Recreation and Physical Education and Outdoor Adventure Policies and Procedures Promote the missions of Duke Recreation and Physical Education and Outdoor Adventures. Attending all required staff meetings and training. Assist in promoting and advertising Outdoor Adventure trips and activities. Communicate with the participants, co-Trip Leaders, Trips Manager, and Outdoor Adventures Coordinator prior, during, and after the trip. Complete all necessary paperwork before and after the trip. Check that all group and personal gear is accounted for and used properly. Maintain, clean, organize and repair trip equipment. Ensure the safety of the participants and co-leaders during the trip. Administer first aid in a wilderness setting when needed and fill out required paperwork. Serve as a mentor for the leadership development program individuals and new trip leaders. Maintain a “big picture” perspective of the Outdoor Adventures Program Assist in the development of an outdoor recreation resource inventory.
