The position of Student Mentor Coach is a leadership role with responsibilities of organizing, implementing, and guiding community-related activities within the MEM program. Each cohort of incoming students will have TWO coaches. Student Mentor Coaches will be expected to have a thorough understanding of Duke and Pratt resources and offer guidance to incoming students on various topics, providing both academic and personal mentorship. Throughout their one-semester term, Student Mentor Coaches are accountable for supporting the MEM Administration team in communicating program messaging as well as sharing their personal experience (academic and career). Student Mentor Coaches provide a dependable resource to incoming students while fulfilling the mission and vision of fostering a thriving MEMP community. General Responsibilities • Academic Guidance: Provide incoming students with information on registration, course enrollment, track-related Q&As, and graduation requirements. • Communication Management: Establish exclusive communication channels for each cohort (such as WhatsApp or Microsoft Teams) to keep students updated on MEM program messages. • Community Building Time Ownership: Take the initiative to organize and execute community activities and events based on the CBT calendar. Be responsible for booking venues, managing RSVPs, ensuring high attendance, and providing logistical support. • Orientation Support: Participate in orientation sessions, familiarize incoming students with Duke's and Pratt's resources, and provide onboarding guidance. • Logistic Support: Coordinate with Faculty Mentor Coaches to organize community building events. • Monthly Review: Meet with Faculty Mentor Coaches every month to align on activity progress and receive suggestions for optimizing work operations. Student Mentor Coach Profile • Completed at least one year of study in the MEM program • Committed only to this role once selected to ensure the greatest time contribution • Time commitment to being available in-person from the start of Orientation (8/21) until the end of the fall semester (Reading period ends 12/12) • Prior leadership experience in student services, clubs, or similar fields • Strong communication skills, including experience coordinating teams and communicating with administrators • Excellent organizational skills, including prioritization and time management • Highly responsive and responsible throughout the entire semester
Compensation • Payment in line with Pratt/Duke TA rate, up to 20 hours per week • Appointment letter from Director Luis Morales |
