About the Environmental Justice Lab The Duke Environmental Justice (EJ) Lab is looking for an undergraduate Student Research Assistant to join the team. The EJ lab is an interdisciplinary group that works across the Kenan Institute for Ethics and the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability to bring data tools and research justice principles to community building projects. The EJ Lab aims to provide community partners with access to data-driven research in the form that’s most useful to them - whether that be peer reviewed papers, policy briefs, or public use data tools. We are currently focused on examining environmental disparities in housing markets and neighborhoods, social and environmental determinants of health for communities, and the efficacy of environmental justice policy solutions. This role We are looking for an undergrad student Research Assistant who can grow with the lab, ideally building skills across quantitative and qualitative research practices. Because of this, we're most interested in Sophomores and Juniors, but will entertain applications from Seniors as well. Assignments vary according to our external co-researchers’ needs and priorities, but may include the following types of projects: - Cleaning and documenting large datasets to be used across lab research projects.
- Creating reproducible data pipelines that can be used to update data as it is newly released.
- Engaging in collaborative research processes, becoming an expert within the lab in your area and helping other lab members brainstorm and problem solve
- Scoping potential new projects, assisting the research team with understanding nuances of data and participating in brainstorming potential approaches
- Participating in lab meetings + engaging in skill building
We anticipate the work will require between 8-19 hours per week; prefer higher availability. |
