Jumpstart is a national early education organization that educates and trains college students to work with preschool children from low-income families. Our Jumpstart members will provide high-quality literacy education and supportive interactions to children in the Durham area through classroom aid and curriculum. Join us to work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. What is the role of a Volunteer Jumpstart Corps Member? Jumpstart Corps members have the unique opportunity to inspire young children to learn, serve in a local community, collaborate with others in a team, and build professional skills. All Corps members receive high-quality training in Jumpstart’s outcome-based program, promote children’s school success, and build family involvement. During the school year, Jumpstart Corps Members assist preschool educators, leading the implementation of Jumpstart curriculum to students. Corps members serve part-time, 8-12 hours per week, participate in intensive pre-service and on-going trainings, and attend periodic service days. Additional Program Details: -Extensive training, coaching, and support in the field of early childhood education and child development -Unique opportunities to join a national network of individuals serving young children -Invaluable experience to make a difference in the lives of young children -The choice to use provided University van transportation at qualifying sites
Jumpstart Corps Members will be responsible for the following: -Serve in Durham preschool classroom settings on a team under the guidance of a mentor teacher -Team-teach the Jumpstart curriculum to preschool students with a low student to Corps Member ratio -Attend a pre-service training institute and ongoing weekly training seminars. -Communicate with Duke Jumpstart Program staff regularly regarding scheduling, curriculum development, and student interactions
