Job Description |
An Intramural Sport Official is the referee responsible for enforcing the rules of intramural contests and special events. All officials must have some experience either playing JV/Varsity or officiating the following sports: basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball. are expected to utilize appropriate mechanics for officiating, enforce rules and regulations for each specific sport or event, and conduct each contest in a professional manner with regard to interaction among players, coaches, spectators, and coworkers. Prior experience in sports and/or officiating is recommended. Responsibilities: - Develop an understanding of the rules, positioning, and mechanics for each sport and enforce them.
- Remain impartial and fair to all teams and enforce sportsmanship.
- Assist in any necessary preparation for the scheduled event.
- Being proactive by locating team captains at least ten-minutes prior to the contest and direct them to sign-in with the scorekeeper and/or supervisor.
- Check the conditions of the game site for potential hazards, reporting them immediately to the scorekeeper and/or supervisor.
- Conduct pre-game meetings with the team captains.
- Begin contest at its scheduled time and manage the event in a timely manner.
- Anticipate problems and seek preventative methods to minimize issues through quality officiating.
- Attempt to resolve disputes and continue contest, if possible.
- Submit a written report of all sportsmanship related incidents, ejections, and altercations.
- Assist the scorekeeper and/or supervisor in the event of an injury.
- Maintain a safe environment for each contest.
- Promote positive public relations at all times.
- Treat participants, spectators, and staff with fairness and respect.
- Help keep score, supervise, or manage the equipment, as needed.
- Maintain communication with scorekeeper and/or supervisor.
- Answer participant questions to the best of their abilities.
- Assist with site break-down and clean-up, following the conclusion of a contest.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements |
Qualifications: - Experience playing or officiating sports.
- In attendance for all mandatory meetings and clinics.
- Punctual and professional attitude and appearance at all times.
- Must be available to work evening and weekend hours, at a minimum of 2 nights per week (typical programming occurs Sunday - Thursday, 5-11pm; occasional weekend tournaments)
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to demonstrate a strong working knowledge and understanding of Intramural Sport policies and procedures.
