Course Description: This seminar uses macroeconomic and microeconomic principles to analyze developmental challenges. We will use a core textbook to provide an integrated overview of many of the topics covered in the seminar, but the content and structure of the seminar will not follow the textbook and fellows will be required to read more widely and deeply on the topics covered. Many of the topics can be analyzed from both a microeconomic and macroeconomic angle, as well as from an institutional perspective, and the emphasis is on how to use a range of techniques to analyze different problems rather than identifying a problem that lends itself to the application of a particular technique. The teaching assistant for PUBPOL 702 will support the faculty member and students with duties that include leading discussions, managing labs, grading assignments, and holding office hours. Duties include: 1) Holding Friday discussion section; attend all class sessions and read all assigned materials in advance 2) Assist with Canvas maintenance and class logistics (as required) 3) Help proctoring and grading two in-class exams; grade three memo assignments (and offering feedback on drafts), one op-ed assignment, and student presentation 4) Hold weekly office hours to help students with material discussed in class and assignments and attend weekly TA meetings 5) Other tasks as assigned TA may be required to work more hours during peak periods including midterm and final exam period.
