Job Description

Spring 2027 MW 10:05-11:20AM (Lecture); F 10:20-11:10AM, 12:00-12:50PM, OR 3:20-4:10PM **Lecture attendance, and discussion section attendance required**

1) Attend class and read all assigned materials in advance

2) Assist with Canvas maintenance and Zoom logistics (as required)

3) Help grade two take-home exams, three memo outlines and three final memos, and up to five pop quizzes

4) Hold weekly office hours to help students with material discussed in class and assignments and attend weekly TA meetings

Additional duties of PhD TA:

5) Organize the logistics of a course as a Head TA

6) Develop quizzes, exams and grading rubrics, together with the instructor

7) Harmonize grading across TAs

8) Lead class discussions in 2-3 sessions during the semester (prepare and deliver these lectures, and stimulate discussions around them)

9) Hold weekly office hours to clear doubts about materials discussed in class and assignments

Job Requirements

PhD student preferred.

Teaching experience (i.e., Teach for America) recommended. Excellent writing skills and ability to mentor writing assignments. Students should write memos well, be interested in politics, and have taken and performed well in PubPol 814 or PubPol 820 (MPP).

Work-study eligible students highly encouraged. If you have previous experience as a teaching assistant for the Sanford School of Public Policy, you will be eligible to receive an increased pay rate of $21.00 per hour.
